With the dawn of smartphones just a few short years ago things got far more complex still. 3G

This is a common one at the moment as 3G is the network that mobile phones currently operate on in this country. 3G is far superior to the 2G network and features video calling, web browsing and multimedia and is seven times faster than normal 2G networks. If you have a 3G enabled phone you should be able to access all of this.

Firmware

This is the software that runs your mobile phone. You cannot change it yourself without voiding your warranty or damaging your phone but you can upgrade it. Usually you do this by visiting the phone manufacturers website. Latest firmware means there are less chance of bugs and better working.

These are the memory cards that can fit into the side of your mobile. They give you more memory so you can have more software and media on your phone. Nowadays mobiles with support for microSDs with larger capacity are generally preferred.

This is a service which allows you to leave your home service area, in other words the area which you pay your bill to use your phone in. Roaming allows you to pick up other networks which can be useful when abroad but watch out as many networks will charge you for this.
